Coffee Shop in Scottsdale Offers Improved Gluten Free Options
Scottsdale Gluten Free Coffee Shop | by Julianne La Porte | Updated October 8, 2013
If you haven't been to Jolta Java, then you owe it to yourself to stop in to this independent coffeehouse and sandwich shop. With Starbucks' and Coffee Bean's on every corner, it's amazing to think that a stand alone coffee shop like this could even exist, but to offer gluten free pastries from Jewel's Cupcake Shop is a true bonus. In the last few weeks, Jolta Java has upped it's game again and now carries Jewel's Cupcake Shop signature bread. They have expanded their menu to include gluten free sandwiches and salads. They do an excellent job of trying to avoid cross contact by utilizing a separate prep area, toaster, utensils, etc. Better yet, they have labeled their menu with large GF's to clearly indicate which items are gluten free. All of the employees seem to be fairly knowledgeable and understand what gluten is and which ingredients can be eliminated to comply with the gluten free designation. The sandwiches are delicious, the gluten free bread is delicate, but has a great texture and a bit of sweetness. I sampled the The Crunchy Caprese, buffala mozzarella, tomato and a basil pesto. It was perfect! I can't wait to go back to sample something else.
The decor is homey and comfortable and they offer free wi-fi in addition to a well lit area to work. With all of these expanded gluten free menu items and Jewel's Cupcake Shop gluten free scones, and pastries, I believe I have found my favorite office in town. I thought it was a great little hidden gem before - now you'll find me there more often than not.
Stop in and enjoy a cup of joe and a pastry or meet up for lunch. Whether you are gluten free or not, this place can't be missed. Spread the word and make sure that mom and pop places like this, stay around. Let us know if you've eaten here and what you thought.
